Half alien. Half machine. All evil. Before he was the leader of the Separatist droid armies, General Grievous was a ruthless Kaleesh warlord who was badly injured in a shuttle crash. His body and brain were rebuilt, and after extensive training in the art of lightsaber combat, Grievous became one of the most feared enemies of the Jedi Order. His fateful confrontation with Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi proved that even a living, breathing technological terror like Grievous was ultimately no match for the power of the Force.

The Saga Collection immediately became a collector favorite line for Star Wars fans. It brought together for the very first time figures from all six films as well as the Clone Wars multimedia event and the Expanded Universe, all separated by cool color coding and clear labeling. The packaging was a hybrid of the curvy Revenge Of The Sith packaging, with plenty of silver and black elements that made it both reminiscent of the original Kenner vintage line in addition to The Original Trilogy Collection, the first basic figure line that totally exceeded Hasbro’s expectations. It may have been the most clever line Hasbro cobbled together because although there was plenty of new figures added to the line, many more were just retools, repaints and kit-bashed figures that were made fresh and unique and worthy of collectors’ dollars. In effect, the bevy of characters Hasbro brought into the line could be considered “new” as there were very few straight repacks in the line. Each figure was made unique.

Revenge Of The Sith was the last Star Wars film and perhaps because of that reason alone Hasbro needed more time to get great action figures out to collectors from that film. As a result, a nice and healthy portion of figures from The Saga Collection were sourced from Episode III. One figure that collectors wanted was a battle-damaged version of General Grievous. Hasbro got to work on that figure relatively quickly and it was released a year after the film was in theaters in the newfound The Saga Collection. Having plenty of sculpts for General Grievous already, Hasbro chose to retool and repaint 2005’s ROTS General Grievous (Sneak Preview) (1 of 4) figure and it may just be the best version they could have used for the time. The head was retooled to accept the the flames attachment in his eyes and Hasbro updated the forearms so they looked battle-damages. And the new and improved paint job makes General Grievous more movie-accurate than ever before.

General Grievous (Demise Of Grievous) comes with a droid blaster, electropole and the aforementioned flames attachment. There is also a free-moving flames attachment around his waist, but this has been manufactured in a way that it isn’t removable. This is strange for Hasbro as they’re normally pretty good about making all “free” accessories removable. General Grievous was packaged in the 2006 Ultimate Galactic Hunt sub-line look. This is a bit of a misnomer, because he wasn’t a “chase” figure in any way. A TARGET exclusive, that was about how limited as he was. He still came in foil packaging and sported the 2006 UGH sticker. The figure sold very steadily but many units ended up going on clearance and that’s when they really started moving off of TARGET’s pegs. It’s a cool figure and it has an important part in the basic figure line, but better versions of Grievous will come and this figure will soon be outdated.
