Research Droids Reviews looks at a figure that should have come out in April 2009 but instead has just been released as a Toys R Us exclusive. But will it succeed at retail, especially at $9.99-$10.99 a pop? We don't think so.... Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! This year is certainly turning out to be the year of The Vintage Collection, but it also has had a big focus on Jabba The Hutt, specifically Jabba's Throne (our Research Droids Review of it is found here) which is "right now" a very difficult exclusive to locate. While you wait for the 2010 Jabba to become more readily available, check out a cool vintage collecting blog (Action Figure Toys) that we came across with a rich amount of detail on many original Kenner vintage items. While perusing we discovered a cool entry on a Sears' exclusive Jabba The Hutt in a white box. You probably already know about the white box variation by now, but click through to check out the original Sears catalogue page that advertised this item as well as the bizarre group of figures that made it into the photo shoot! We could be having a false memory right now, but we swear we've read this text before as kids a long time ago....

Never in a million years did we ever expect to see a YouTube video blending two of the biggest yet unrelated things from the 70s together. VideoViper takes a cover version of former pop super group ABBA's "Super Trouper" (definitely not as good as the original) and mixes it with Star Wars action figures to make "Super Trooper" an action figure music video. If you like kitsch, Star Wars and just a cool tune that was hit way before the Broadway show Mamma Mia! made it bigger, then be sure to check it out. And please don't make us feel any older by asking who ABBA is. This is corny, but humorous folks.

JTA spoke to Hasbro today and they are asserting that The Vintage Collection mail-away rocket-firing Boba Fett mail-away figures are indeed leaving their fulfillment center warehouses in perfect condition. They also explained that they cannot be held responsible for what the USPS has done to the packaging. Hasbro will only replace figures if and only if the actual figure is defective in some way. (Maybe Hasbro needs to find another shipping vendor.) Ugh! If you aren't too angry, check out our review on this piece. It's such a wonderful thing to have in your collection despite it arriving rather smashed, but then again, we are loose collectors first!

We felt compelled to apologize for our initial flippancy towards The Vintage Collection's See-Threepio (C-3PO) action figure. While we are confident about what we write in our reviews, our initial posting was a bit harsh and we wanted to "make things right" by adding some new photos and a whole new review to show our newfound affection towards this figure. The figure has grown on us tremendously and while we remain steadfast on some of our complaints with him, he continually impresses us in some powerfully wonderful ways. We suggest checking out our revised Research Droids Review and photo gallery and see if you feel the same way. (Special thanks to Mr. Curto for bringing C-3PO's bonuses to our collective attention.)

JTA has found out through our Toys R Us sources that they are launching a new Star Wars "shop" in their store on September 23rd with a (gasp!) focus on products in The Vintage Collection. While it will probably just be wave 1 and wave 2 and maybe bigger supplies of the AT-AT, it will be nice to walk into TRU and not be bombarded with tie-dyed ninja hamsters.

Did you miss the Dewback with Imperial Sandtrooper Walmart exclusive in 2009's Legacy Collection? Did you want to get your paws on that super-articulated Sandtrooper? Research Droids Reviews is here to let you know that you now have ample opportunity to get more than one, in fact, as many as you'd like to army build. But this also means that we sadly [temporarily] conclude adding new figures to our database for the time being since wave 2 of The Vintage Collection comes to a close. Sandtrooper looks absolutely splendid on the vintage card back. (Hey, November isn't that far away for the incredible forthcoming Return Of The Jedi wave should start hitting. And that is a wave of figures we cannot wait to get) Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! JTA UK reader Matt Hammonds writes in with news that his local Sainsbury store has two new 4 packs in stock including The Hidden Enemy and Hostage Crisis sets. These probably won't be too far behind in the USA!

Research Droids Reviews checks out the last Revenge Of The Sith themed figure in wave 2 of The Vintage Collection and it's a figure we have seen 100 times before already. (We're exaggerating folks.) Obi-Wan Kenobi is a great figure and he has been great for five years now, but we don't think it was the best version of Episode III Obi-Wan Kenobi worthy for inclusion on a vintage-styled card back. Who knows, you may completely disagree. The revised "Shadow Of The Dark Side" Saga Legends Obi-Wan Kenobi is a much better choice in our opinion. It's all the same when referring to the beautiful and gorgeous vintage-styled Imperial AT-AT! Just look at what we found at a TRU in Langhorne, PA. They are finally hitting the eastern side of the country!

It looks like TARGET has finally caught up with Toys R Us and Walmart for wave 2 of The Vintage Collection! It looks like the new figures were hit hard, but we did find a lowly UGH Han Solo (Echo Base Outfit). But the important news is that you have one more place to find these $2 cheaper than TRU!

Our friends at Sandtroopers.com have gotten their hands AGAIN on some upcoming Battle Packs. Please tell us Hasbro that that isn't the TSC Commander Cody in that set!? Where are the army-building regular clone troopers that should be in this set instead of another crappy Grievous? We finally get the Utapau inspired multipack that we've wanted for years and this is what we get?! UGH! Don't get us started! P.S. Does anyone else find it ironic that the inferior TSC Cody in this Battle Packs set gets the dirt/battle-damage on his legs that the TVC version should have?

Research Droids Reviews is almost done spewing thoughts on the second wave of The Vintage Collection, which has been an overall extremely satisfying wave of figures! It's time for General Grievous, now complete with a soft-goods cape that holds eight lightsaber hilts (how fantastic is that?!) and improved wrist articulation as well as "newish" forearms! But he's not all a bed of roses. Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! We've been receiving report that TARGET has increased the price of their Saga Legends figures to $7.99. We aren't aware of how widespread this is, but TARGET for the most parts tends to do things nationally. With the recent news that we reported of Walmart knocking their figures down a dollar, we find this action interesting. What have you found? Let us know!

It's yet another new figure from The Vintage Collection! A brand new wave of figures hitting retail means all-new Research Droids Reviews! We continue with wave two of The Vintage Collection and check out one of the best figures so far, the MagnaGuard. Hasbro went all out and knocked this one out of the park! Loaded with tons of The Vintage Collection wave 1, we didn't find any of wave 2, but we did find lots of The Clone Wars and Saga Legends as well. Pre-Cyborg Grievous is an action figure we should have loved a lot more than we did. He just got rereleased in the TRU exclusive Legacy Of The Dark Side two-packs, but his imperfections still haven't been addressed. Research Droids Reviews discusses this figure in detail and talks about why he doesn't totally succeed as an action figure. Even still, he was a nice addition to the Expanded Universe wave in the 30 (77-07) line, but we think it will take one more stab at him before he can be considered definitive. Someone important at the Walmart corporate division must be current with his 5 hour energy doses. We noticed that some of our local stores have reduced the price of both Saga Legends and The Clone Wars lines keeping them in swift competition with TARGET. It's unknown if TRU will follow suit.

Found! While waiting for our local Toys R Us store to open (because we got a tip from the manager that more TVC was coming), we stopped at our local Walmart in Tullytown, PA and nearly collapsed. No less than six brand new cases of wave two of The Vintage Collection were sitting there to greet us. We found all of the Ultimate Galactic Hunt figures as well as ALL of the new figures. This is the first we heard of this wave hitting Walmart, but what a steal at $7.96 when TRU is still trying to get $9.99 each for them! Click through to check out just a portion of our find! Oh, and these will start being added to our Research Droids Reviews on Saturday morning! Check back!

Who has the nastiest flesh wound of all? Research Droids Reviews makes a case that it is conclusively Darth Malak sans lower jaw. Eeeeewwwww! But despite his mortal injury, he is a pretty cool action figure that is just slightly out of perfect range in our opinion. Will Hasbro ever perfect him? That remains elusive, but the version that is available certainly should make KOTOR fans very happy. Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! JTA reader Adri Bishop writes in with word that he found a Shaak Ti labeled Jaina Solo as well. If you remember our original report (found HERE), readers have been finding basic Legacy Collection figures with wrong inserts. We'll chalk it up to a massive screw up at the factory level.
