Nothing spells controversy like an exclusive Comic Packs set, does it? The good news is that it has finally been released and the final results are quite impressive! Research Droids Reviews looks at this set in detail and offers some insight on its subsequent "banning" by Walmart. (Hm, we wonder why they still carry CDs with "Parental Advisory" stickers on them, but not Star Wars collectibles with warnings?) Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! JTA's Research Droids Reviews are Under Construction! August is a far way off for all the new product and while we will continue to present you with a new review each day, we decided to "spiffy up" some of our older reviews by adding new photo galleries and new edits of the reviews as well as other collector-friendly notes.
Today's update is all about The Empire Strikes Back (well, everything except the Build A Droid). But this wave offered collectors some really great figures and we think it gave us definitive versions of some of them. Be sure to check this update thoroughly and you must check out our new gallery of U-3PO featuring eight side by side comparison shots of the champagne versus silver colors. Be sure to spend some time and check out the hard work we're doing for you behind the scenes. We will be doing periodic updates of our older reviews until we're done, so keep checking back with us. This is a friendly reminder that you only have 2 more days after today to get your Qui-Gon Jinn/Eopie mail-away documents out to Hasbro. Don't miss out on this wondrous "gift" from them because this was a very nice "freebie". While currently out of stock, more are on the way, but Hasbro requires that your envelopes are postmarked by March 31st and received in Bozeman, MT by April 8th. The choice is yours, so act now!!

Well, Hasbro has resorted to the likes of ROSS to ensure complete sell through of many of their exclusives. Maybe if the exclusives had started out at fairer prices, they would have performed remarkably better at the intended retail chain instead of becoming bargain hunter fodder. But we found unbelievable deals at a few different ROSS locations in the Philly area. You just have to click through to see all the bargains! Oh, and get to ROSS where you can do more than just dress for less.

It certainly (and sadly) appears so. We are ecstatic to report that we found the very last wave (ever?) of the Comic Packs in Toys R Us today. Had Hasbro opened up the red phase of the Legacy Collection with these sets first (instead of only 3 new ones and 5 straight repacks), we speculate that the Comic Packs line would still be alive today. It is a fantastic set of characters that both movie-only and EU only fans will both adore. Because we love, you, our readers, we have taken photos front and back of all of them for your enjoyment. You know how last waves work people, so if you see these, grab them immediately! Look for these to be added to our Research Droids Reviews very shortly. Can one appreciate a set of action figures more than before simply based on how well they look against each other? Well, the Birth Of Darth Vader Battle Packs set that has just started to show up at retail seems to be proving this point true. JTA aficionado and very good friend Jim Decke writes in with interesting news about a very noticeable packaging variation on the Resurgence Of The Jedi Battle Packs set. It would be easiest just to click through and see the differences, but in short, C-3PO goes from sitting down to standing up and R2-D2 and Obi-Wan Kenobi switch positions so that R2 can more easily project the beautiful Princess Leia (hologram) closer to the table. And you can always check our Research Droids Review on this awesome set HERE as well. Click through to check out this latest development! P.S. Jim, I need your address! E-mail me!

JTA reader Brianna Huerta writes in to notify everyone that she found the Disturbance At Lars Homestead Toys R Us exclusive for a mere $15.00 at a southern California store. What a shame and what a pity. The Comic Packs line is dead or at the very best is going into retirement. Research Droids Reviews looks at one of the final releases which also happens to be a Walmart exclusive. We think that between all the poor distribution, the uninventive choices and all the annoying repacks that it makes sense why the line is going bye-bye. This is indeed unfortunate because some of the sets were pretty good, this one was not. Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! When we found the remix case of Legacy Collection's The Empire Strikes Back wave at Walmart this morning, we noticed an interesting move by Hasbro that the figures each have a unique new bar code sticker affixed over the bar code on the figure's insert. The numbers are different than the Blockbuster Value! sets stickers. We're not entirely sure what is going on here, but wanted to pass the news along to you.
UPDATE: We posted the UPC numbers of the original releases versus the Wave 12 remix versions. Click through to check it out!

Do you believe that a great paint job can make a 10 year old figure look like a figure made with today's technology? It's true. The Watto/R2-T0 Droid Factory set from the 30 (77-07) line made a figure from 1999 look like a figure from 2008 and his companion droid was nothing to sneeze at either.
