You probably know by now that we’re not too keen of the exclusive Commemorative Tin Collection sets, but adore the general release versions. Hasbro definitely got lazy with the exclusive ones and it likely has to do with cost. The Kmart exclusive Commemorative Tin Collection four-packs (in general) just didn’t wow us like they should have. When announced that Hasbro was going to supplement the series with some new sets many collectors got excited. But when we all soon realized that they were just straight repacks, well, we lost interest rather quickly. The Star Wars Episode VI: Return Of The Jedi (Exclusive) multipack isn’t as bad as you might think it is. Yes, they’re all straight repacks in this set, but Hasbro chose some great main characters, army builders and highly sought after obscure characters to help pad this exclusive release. And while far from perfect, this one certainly is more palatable than the other tin sets also released as Kmart exclusives.

Hasbro once again reverted to gathering a collection of Star Wars figures from The Saga Collection era to put this set together. In fact, every last figure is from some facet of The Saga Collection. Darth Vader is a straight repack of 2006’s TSC Darth Vader (SAGA 045) figure. There are literally no differences between the original basic figure and the repacked figure in the tin. The same is true for R5-J2. R5-J2 is a straight repack of 2006’s TSC R5-J2 (SAGA 058) figure. This was a great choice to re-release into the basic figure line. It’s rare when we get Imperial astromech droids, and this one, while technically screen inaccurate, still looks great and is highly sought after even today. Had Hasbro utilized their earlier approach, perhaps they could have corrected this droid to look like the one in film a bit more. Death Star Gunner is the final figure from The Saga Collection basic figure line to be included here. This figure is a straight repack of 2006’s TSC Death Star Gunner (SAGA 041) figure. It’s still a great figure, an excellent army builder and despite not having ball-jointed elbows, it still holds up well as it did when it was first released. So Hasbro could have definitely done worse by choosing inferior action figures, but so far these were all admirable choices.

The final figure in the Star Wars Episode VI: Return Of The Jedi (Exclusive) Commemorative Tin Collection set is the Biker Scout. It’s a straight repack of the 2006 VTSC Biker Scout and/or 2007 TAC Biker Scout (Saga Legends) figures. It too looks just as great as it did when it was first released. And it’s probably the best army builder in this complete set. It goes without saying that it is also the highest quality figure in this lot. Sadly, the Biker Scout isn’t part of a set that gives the collector value. You’re almost paying quite a bit more for him now. The original retail for all four figures at worst totals $27.96, but even then Hasbro typically lowers the price a bit when it comes to a multipack. That was one of the greatest bonuses about multipacks. You always got more for your money. But it looks like that trend is now fading and Hasbro is looking to get as much as they can per figure now. We don’t know what to think of this exclusive. It looks alright, but it’s anything but necessary. Figures from The Saga Collection were produced in high numbers and they were all readily available. We guess if you’re new to collecting then this would be a great starter set. But other than that we’re not exactly sure who will be plopping down more than $35 for this Commemorative Tin Collection set.
