Wullffwarro is a Wookiee leader who, along with his comrades, becomes a powerful ally to Kanan Jarrus and his band of rebel heroes.

You’d think that with a well established animated Star Wars show under the belt that Lucasfilm Ltd. would have carried forward nearly identical animation for some of the background characters. Wookiees were introduced in The Clone Wars’ third season. But by the time Hasbro made the first animated Wookiee action figure, 2010’s TCW [SOTDS] Chewbacca (CW63), the toy line was beginning to fizzle and Hasbro decided that anything The Clone Wars should be swept under the same banner as the movie-specific products. Our point is that any future Wookiee action figures became very likely. And that’s what happened here. So now that Star Wars: Rebels has introduced Wookiees into the show very early on, Hasbro ensured that they become some of the earliest figures in the line. They designed the Wullffwarro And Wookiee Warrior Mission Series set, and despite being panned by collectors, we have grown quite fond of it. Both figures are nicely sculpted, whether you like the design of the Wookiees in Rebels or not, and they complement an already motley cast of characters that the toy line has brought to retail. Something about them, whether it be the shiny luster of their fur or some sculpting phenomenon, appears not right. They are faithful representations, yet seem to be missing something. We're surprised to see Wookiee characters released so early in the line before many of the main characters. It seems that Hasbro is trying to say that the Rebels toy line is intended to be quite versatile like so many other previous line looks.

Wullffwarro and the Wookiee Warrior are strikingly different from each other in color and size, yet they complement each other equally as well. Wullffwarro is the large dark Wookiee leader, and the thin Wookiee Warrior (who in our opinion looks like an animated version of the 1978 vintage Kenner Chewbacca action figure) are two fun figures for the Rebels toy line. Wullffwarro is an admirable effort, but he looks quite different from every other Wookiee Hasbro has made in the past. We believe it may have to do with his shorter legs. But again, this is how he looked in the Rebels show. As stated earlier, these characters have already been introduced before the official season even began, so those who watch the show are already familiar with them. These simply articulated figures come with five points of articulation each, but keep in mind that the swivel head sculpts don’t provide a full range of movement. They are inhibited by the bulky neck fur and cannot be fully articulated. The sculpts are simple. Both Wookiees are essentially “naked” save for decorative arm bands on their respective left arms. The paint operations are more than acceptable here. Hasbro added streaks of varying color to help bring out the texture of the fur, and for the most part, the details in their faces look very, very nice. Some just don’t like the “ape-like” design of the Wookiees in Rebels, so this Mission Series set may not be for you at all.

What we do take exception with here is the inclusion of no weapons at all. Now, everyone knows that half of the Star Wars figures we received in The Power Of The Force “2” line came with accessories that weren’t screen-accurate. But did any of us care? Did we have to have the exact screen accurate weapon of the character? No, we didn’t care about such things. If you based the sources on the weapons that came included with the action figures, everything would have to be from the Expanded Universe. Hasbro ensured that the earliest action figures came packed with weapons. At least we received versatile weapons to make playtime a little more interesting for collectors of all ages. But what do we get with the Wookiees in the Rebels line? Nothing! How is this even possible? Did Hasbro utilize too much plastic on these larger action figures and had to retain costs by skipping over any armament? We find their lack of accessories disturbing. These are Wookiees for goodness sake. They also have some weapon in their hands. They literally and metaphorically look naked in the Rebels line. And we have to say it affects how we feel about them as toys. We always believed that Saga Legends and Mission Series figures would minimally come with one accessory; two or more is just gravy. So we don’t know what they were thinking here. Still, if you love Wookiees or the show, you’ll likely want to secure this duo for your own collection.
