A highly skilled soldier in the Rebel Alliance, Sergeant Jyn Erso is an impetuous, defiant warrior eager to bring the battle to the Empire. Jyn has little patience for debate within Alliance High Command, enough so that she takes matters into her own hands.

Well, the first wave of Rogue One action figures have been hit or miss. The detail is undeniably good. There is no question about that. It’s hard to believe with many of the figures that they are only five points of articulation (plus or minus a few points). Simply articulated action figures have never looked better (from the perspective of the sculpt). But like so many before her, Sergeant Jyn Erso (Eadu) suffers from weak paint operations (and these cheap shortcuts are only visible in the face. There is an aesthetic issue with Sergeant Jyn Erso (Eadu) too, but we probably would have let that go if Hasbro has given her a nice paint job on the face. Right now, Sergeant Jyn Erso (Eadu) looks smug with yellow “angry” eyes. Admittedly, there is no question that it’s harder to decorate faces in the smaller 3.75” scale, but it barely looks like Hasbro even tried with this particular figure. It’s strange that they can make the entire figure, except the head sculpt, look good. Maybe they could outsource this too to deliver stellar action figures.

While we know little to nothing about the plot of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, we do know that the main protagonist changes outfits a few times. And it appears that Hasbro has everything in place to make every last action figure of her in these various outfits. For example, the shorter stature of the Imperial Ground Crew action figure looks like it's intentionally made shorter so that Hasbro could make a version of her in this disguise at some point also. From the stills and trailers, we have already seen Jyn Erso wears some similar disguise. So the first wave of Rogue One opens up with her in her outfit on Eadu, which looks like a colder climate planet. Again, the sculpt borders on excellent. Just like the Kmart exclusive The Black Series [Phase III] Sergeant Jyn Erso (Eadu) 6” figure, she comes with a soft-pliable orange breather mask. On the Rogue One figure it is permanently attached to her side, but the mask part can be removed from her neck and held in her hand. It’s soft enough to do that. So you get more than just the standard options here.

Sergeant Jyn Erso (Eadu) comes with a blaster pistol too. And Hasbro has tooled a functioning holster where it can be placed when not in use. It fits perfectly in there. Other than that she is rather lightly outfitted. Let’s not forget about the play feature weapon. She also comes with a very large cannon/blaster that fires a brightly colored projectile. The cannon is VERY clumsy, and it is difficult to get her to hold it. But with the enhanced swivel forearms (Sergeant Jyn Erso (Eadu) comes with seven points of articulation), they certainly aid the figure to hold the weapon unassisted. But you should know it isn’t easy. It makes her top-heavy, and she wants to fall over. We should also mention that the balance is also afflicted by her uneven legs. Hasbro didn’t give her legs the evenness that they needed to accommodate such a large weapon, so this is another negative. Probably the best way to describe Sergeant Jyn Erso (Eadu) is that it’s an admirable effort that needs a great deal more work before it can be considered perfected (and we’re not even talking about articulation here).
