Have you ever sat in anticipation so long that when what you were waiting for finally came to pass it almost didn’t matter anymore? That’s about where we’re at with Luke Skywalker (Jedi Master) from the Star Wars [The Last Jedi] line. Hasbro made us wait two years to the first Force Friday before they busted out our favorite Jedi hero from the Original Trilogy as he appeared in the new Star Wars Sequel Trilogy. The figure is pretty much what we expected it to be. Luke Skywalker (Jedi Master) comes with five points of articulation, can’t really move all that well and has questionable paint operations which make him look like quite of few other actors and movie characters that ARE NOT Luke Skywalker. It’s hard to be enthusiastic for this figure when the wait has killed any joy. Again, anticipation can kill things. And we think the anticipation for Luke Skywalker (Jedi Master) has killed our once unbridled desire for it. Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi already has some fans concerned about Luke Skywalker. We honestly feel similarly. So maybe what Disney plans to do with this character has influenced the way we’re seeing him in the toy line too.

You know the drill here. The 5POA line is exactly what it’s called. These figures are the simplest of all Hasbro action figures. Luke Skywalker (Jedi Master) comes with a ball-socket head, two swivel shoulders and two swivel hips. As a character who wears thick robes, Hasbro basically split them into two and created faux legs for this action figure. But we have to wonder what the point of all that was when you can’t really pose these simple action figures in any meaningful way. You cannot recreate these figures walking, leaping, running or anything else. So again, what’s the point here? The paint operations are just average on this figure. Luke Skywalker (Jedi Master) has gray hair thank goodness, but his eyes are painted not so well and we have found imperfections throughout the figure that makes us believe the production of these figures was somewhat rushed. Also, we’re just not crazy about the style of his uniform. All we think when we see it is that is resembles a circus tent with its alternating gray and white striping. As briefly seen in Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, Luke Skywalker (Jedi Master) also come with right cybernetic hand.

Sadly, Luke Skywalker (Jedi Master) doesn’t come with any meaningful accessories. He doesn’t come with his lightsaber. He doesn’t have a blaster. And he doesn’t come with anything specifically new from Episode VIII. Surely Hasbro could have packed another porg with this action figure so fans could build their own porg armies, right? He does come with a removable cloak. It has been cast in a rather soft, rubbery plastic that has some give and tenderness. It’s easy to wrap around the figure and remove as needed. But overall it doesn’t bring much to this action figure and we find it disappointing that he is so lightly accessorized. Luke Skywalker (Jedi Master) will likely be the most popular action figure in the entire first wave of action figures. We hope that, in order to meet demand, Hasbro has wise plans to keep this action figure well stocked at retail via smart case assortments and constantly repacking him. Collectors who aren’t even into the new Sequel Trilogy are likely going to pick up this figure. We suppose it’s nice to see this figure finally available to buy. And he is coming in every format imaginable. But the wait has definitely killed the excitement. The wait was way too long.
