S.H. Figuarts is a new standard figure series that incorporates the Bandai action figure "Art" under the theme "Pursuing Character Expression through Humanoid Action."

The Obi-Wan Kenobi (Attack Of The Clones) S.H. Figuarts figure is a kind of middle of the road release. It’s good, not perfect, and has charm but yet you wish more for it than what has been executed. It’s a mixed bag of mediocrity and excellence. We suppose you could say this figure is its own worst oxymoron. For us, the best incarnation in the Prequel Trilogy of Obi-Wan Kenobi is from Star Wars Episode II: Attack Of The Clones. We’re unequivocal about this. We're always thrilled to see new collectibles based on this version of him released time and again. And for the most part, we’re equally thrilled about S.H. Figuarts’ Obi-Wan Kenobi (Attack Of The Clones) figure. The figure itself looks great and is loaded with an inordinate amount of articulation that we expect from this line. The coloring is right, and all of the important features are tooled into the sculpt. He has a tan shirt with white pants and burgundy leather boots. And he also has a brown belt to complement everything else he’s wearing. So, everything feels in place here. What is there to worry about with this figure? It’s his likeness. The “photo realistic” technology is applied here, but we’re not sure how well it was executed.

Obi-Wan Kenobi (Attack Of The Clones) definitely looks like the onscreen character. You will be able to tell this is him. But there is some “sloppiness” in the applications which may have distorted how well his likeness turned out. Obi-Wan Kenobi (Attack Of The Clones) looks good, but not great. What’s even more distracting is that S.H. Figuarts included a second alternate head sculpt, but we can barely tell it apart from the version that came attached to the figure. It feels like they sculpted an all-new portrait for essentially no reason at all. It truly feels like a wasted accessory here. Despite these concerns, the head sculpt, from a silhouette perspective, look just like actor Ewan McGregor. S.H. Figuarts nailed the shape and his hair very well. It’s a shame that they couldn’t knock the deco out of the park to finish this figure the way they should have finished him. But let us reiterate. Obi-Wan Kenobi (Attack Of The Clones) is not a terrible looking action figure. We just feel strongly that S.H. Figuarts could have taken it to the next level to perfect it. Right now it feels a tad unfinished. If his likeness isn’t jarring to you, you should be able to see what the figure brings to the line because there is some great stuff here.

Obi-Wan Kenobi (Attack Of The Clones) comes with an adequate amount of accessories. Included are four sets of interchangeable hands. He also comes with a lightsaber hilt that has a plug which can be added to his belt. The final accessory is a fully-lit lightsaber. The blade appears too long to us, but it’s nicely designed regardless. The articulation system on S.H. Figuarts figures is very complex, and these figures can achieve poses that most other action figures aren’t able to achieve. As you might imagine, Obi-Wan Kenobi (Attack Of The Clones) looks quite dynamic while posed with his lightsaber accessories. It’s quite impressive just how many poses you can achieve with this figure. And the simple but elegantly designed accessories complement what is already here. From the soft vinyl lower skirt to the double ball-jointed/ball-socket articulation in the shoulders, Obi-Wan Kenobi (Attack Of The Clones) should prove to you that Tamashii Nations is serious about their action figure making. Nothing is held back, and the best is given to these figures. Obi-Wan Kenobi (Attack Of The Clones) may not be pure perfection, but he isn’t bad by any stretch of the imagination. We’re happy to have him added to our collection.
