Due to special conditions such as gravity fluctuation of unusual planetary magnetic field, the Empire needed a vehicle which could be used on all terrains. Designers resorted to ancient technology and applied it to a large scale for combat vehicles. The finished AT-AT (All Terrain Armored Transport) walkers surpassed Imperial expectations, virtually unstoppable as weapons platforms.

Acting as transports for Imperial ground troopers and light vehicles, these beastly machines were used to crush and demoralize enemy forces thereby forming the core of many Imperial ground assaults.

Driving an Imperial All Terrain Armored Transport requires great skill which can only be acquired through rigorous training and practice. "Ground pilots" train in teams of two, learning to operate the behemoths in conjunction with a combat coordinator. While one pilot drives the monstrous machine, the second pilot assists as a navigator and gunner.

General Veers, when assembling his legion of "Hunters," chose only the best-trained and best-equipped troops in the Imperial Army. During their training, the teams live and work in their walker over much of each mission. The trainees even get involved with the maintenance of the AT-AT walker.

The command crew works in the compact, crowded cockpit which is locates in the "head" of the machine. The weapons are also located in this section, as well as holographic targeting systems which allow the gunner and a driver a 360° view of their position. The crew is trained to use the walkers for blatant "shock" attacks, landing at great distances but in plain sight of the enemy.

It was this machine monster and its group of flawlessly trained crews that carried out the devastating assault on Hoth.

Authentically styled straight from The Empire Strikes Back, the AT-AT driver features his highly detailed, adverse weather protection suit complete with the helmet, chest respirator, boots, comlink and Imperial blaster. This special edition 12" figure, available for the first time ever, is destined to become a classic collectible.

MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU!

One of the earliest Star Wars exclusive 12 Inch Figures was the AT-AT Driver. Service Merchandise was the retailer of choice, and it was available for an early Fall release in September 1997. Hasbro didn’t delve into making too many characters from The Empire Strikes Back at the time of this figure’s release, so it was a treat to purchase and became a highlight of many collectors’ collections, albeit, if only for a short time. One of the finer figures in the Collector Series line, the AT-AT Driver came with a decently fabricated jumpsuit with an all-new head sculpt that looked proportional to the costume seen in the film. Coming with a noticeably better-articulated buck than previous figures in the line, the AT-AT Driver possesses a great amount of flexibility and mobility because of this. The figure comes with a standard Imperial E-11 blaster. Sadly it doesn’t come with the strapped blaster rifle like the classic Kenner 3.75” figure. The AT-AT Driver is still an admirable release in the Collector Series line. Collectors will appreciate what Kenner/Hasbro did here for them.
