COLLECT THEM ALL!
Imperial sandtroopers search for Rebel droids in the Tatooine desert.
After an awful first attempt with 1997’s POTF2 [R/G] Sandtrooper Collector Series Diamond exclusive figure, Kenner/Hasbro thought they could pawn the figure off again to collectors for the 1998 Action Collection line up. The 1998 Action Collection contained more repacks than new figures, but Kenner/Hasbro tweaked most of them to make them unique for the second release. They weren’t re-releases, except for Greedo. To change the Sandtrooper up, Kenner/Hasbro based this iteration of the Sandtrooper on the character seen in the A New Hope Special Edition. Whether finding droid parts on the Tatooine desert or looking for droids within the bustling streets of Mos Eisley, Lucasfilm added new CGI versions of Sandtroopers or new characters in many of the updated and refreshed scenes. This release of the Sandtrooper incorporates many of the Special Edition details of these characters. Included with the Sandtrooper is a Mark IV sentry droid. The new character presented as CGI is named IM4-099 or “Face” as a nickname. Also new here is the dirt pattern deco and the inclusion of a white pauldron, which means that this figure is a Sandtrooper Sergeant. Despite the best efforts to refresh this 12 Inch Figure, very few collectors will be interested. The approach is dreadful. The armor is too big and bulky and loose-fitting. And the helmet doesn’t have a faithful likeness to the characters in the film. The survival backpack looks good, as does the blaster rifle. But they aren’t enough to salvage what a disaster the Sandtrooper Action Collection figure is.
Status: Sandtrooper is a repaint of 1997's POTF2 [R/G] Sandtrooper Collector Series figure. This time the figure has been given a white pauldron designating it as a sergeant. It also comes with an all-new Mark IV sentry droid.
