Kenner/Hasbro prepared two mail-away exclusives in 1998 for The Power Of The Force “2” [Freeze Frame/The Kenner Collection] line. Unfortunately, both were necessary if you decided to collect any figures part of the 1998 lineup. Each basic figure came with a Freeze Frame Action Slide, and the more figures you purchased, the more loose Freeze Frame Action Slides accumulated in your collection. To help make the line more interactive, Hasbro first produced the Freeze Frame Action Slides Holder. Each folder holds 12 slides. And then the second mail-away was the Slide Holder. Kenner/Hasbro cleverly designed a realistic pair of macrobinoculars shell and converted it into a Freeze Frame Action Slide viewer. Battery operated, all collectors needed to do was press any of the Freeze Frame Action Slides produced in the 1998 basic figure line into the slot of the Slide Viewer, and it would light up and expand the image as you looked through the view hole. Those without professional-grade slide projectors didn’t have to worry about how they could view the slides. Kenner/Hasbro made it easy for us. A mail-away promotion for the second half of 1998, collectors only had to shell out $5.99 to get the Slide Viewer in addition to two exclusive Freeze Frame Action Slides. Both Han Solo and Luke Skywalker as we see them on Hoth in Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back are now part of the collection. These two exclusive slides brought the total to 59 (including an R2-D2 variation). That’s a lot of slides, so thank the Maker Kenner/Hasbro produced something to allow us to utilizes these pack-in premiums.
