Hasbro is wisely amortizing the tooling budget expended on their Imperial officer buck, and we nod our heads in proud acknowledgment. It took us almost thirty years to get all-new tooling to provide us various members of the Galactic Empire’s highest ranks, and thanks to the inaugural release of Admiral Piett in early 2023, we hope the proverbial floodgates get opened, and Hasbro starts banging them out until we’re bored of them. With a focus on Return Of The Jedi because of the film’s 2023 40th Anniversary, collectors anticipate Hasbro may start backtracking and providing updates to some of the Empire’s finest evil leaders, including Captain Needa, Admiral Ozzel, and Admiral Motti. While you shouldn’t expect any new ground broken on these characters in the action figure except for new head sculpts and perhaps ranking badge changes, most of us feel it’s enough to get super-articulated versions of action figures that previously came with pitiful articulation. Moff Jerjerrod’s initial release in the modern Hasbro Star Wars line was 2006’s TSC Moff Jerjerrod (SAGA 040) figure. It was an all-new figure when released but has aged dreadfully throughout the years. With mostly swivel articulation and no movement below the belt, the figure isn’t much more than a statue. Thanks to The Vintage Collection release, we have a tremendous upgrade.

Moff Jerjerrod has a wonderful portrait and fantastic body sculpt. And now that we have a definitive Imperial Officer/Commander buck, we hope other famous Imperial officers are waiting in the parking lot. We’d love to see General Veers redone so that we can knock out 1981’s ESB Imperial Commander off of our Vintage versus Modern comparisons. Moff Jerjerrod and Admiral Piett offer a wide range of opportunities for The Vintage Collection. We hope Hasbro takes advantage of it. We’ll also take an “army building” set of generic Imperials. This sculpt is that good. Hasbro made a couple of mistakes: one in the packaging and one in the figure. As you know, the ranking badge isn’t a separate piece. We aren’t thrilled with the approach to 2009’s TLC Captain Needa (BD 40) figure, but they could have beveled out the rectangular shape in the chest so that the ranking badge lies flat in the cavity. We hope and pray Hasbro retools the chests of future Imperials so they sport accurate ranking badges. For the packaging, the nimrods in Hasbro’s art department messed up the character’s name in the nameplate. They spelled it Moff JerJerrod when the last name should be all lowercase after the first “J.” Does anyone at Hasbro do their due diligence to ensure mistakes like this don’t happen? It is pretty frustrating.

We’re happy to see ball-socket hips and “rocker” ankles given to this figure because they offer a tremendous array of motion. Moff Jerjerrod is capable of nearly any pose possible. You’ll become ecstatic when you find out that not even the lower skirt of the figure’s uniform inhibits the posing of this figure. Hasbro engineered this figure beautifully, and we’re so happy with how the final figure turned out. The figure has an excellent portrait. However, it doesn't appear to resemble its on-screen character. We don't want to discount the excellent tooling on this figure, but we don’t think it resembles the actor all that much. This action figure looks more like Admiral Motti than Moff Jerjerrod. Your mileage may vary on this. However, the figure has an ideal body shape, incredible articulation, and a paint job that’s as impressive as beautiful. Moff Jerjerrod comes moderately accessorized with a removable cap and an Imperial blaster pistol. The cap fits well and is likely proportionate to the figure’s head and body, but we think it’s slightly oversized. And the blaster pistol fits perfectly into the figure’s right hand. Everything feels right here. We must concede that while Hasbro made many significant mistakes celebrating the 40th Anniversary of Return Of The Jedi, they did a fine job getting out pivotal and unique characters into the basic figure line based on the film. We hope more are on the way.
