It is interesting to see what historical Star Wars characters Disney Star Wars take and remakes to suit their new storylines. Instead of paying direct homage to the characters, they tweak the foundational designs to make them unique to the new series and shows. Take, for instance, the HK-87 Assassin Droid character. In the Star Wars: Ahsoka series, we see two distinct types. One functions as a guard, while the other functions as an infantry member. But both take their cues from the HK-47 droid from Knights Of The Old Republic. You can see a comparison picture of these two characters in our Photo Gallery. The HK-87 Assassin Droid is a fan-favorite action figure, and we believe incorporating a version of the droid into the new Ahsoka series was wise. After all, they need cool-looking background characters to populate the universe since the main characters are insufferably dull.

In service to Morgan Elsbeth, the HK-87 Assassin Droids hunted down Ahsoka Tano and Din Djarin in retaliation for trying to defeat Elsbeth. But, the two were able to destroy the droids and ultimately defeat Elsbeth. We get one style in The Vintage Collection and the other in the Retro Collection. If Hasbro is smart, they'll find a way to get the alternate multi-colored version into The Vintage Collection as soon as possible. The Black Series 6-inch line has both flavors and so should The Vintage Collection. The all-new 3.75-inch super-articulated action figure is fun and excellently made. HK-87 Assassin Droid has an impressive 27 points of articulation and includes special enhancements like ball-socket hips, swivel thighs, and "rocker" ankles to maximize lower body movement. While balancing the figure in action-oriented positions requires a little finesse, this figure can do it all well.

Hasbro incorporated a great deal of detail into the HK-87 Assassin Droid figure. When you remove the soft-goods cape, you can see how much thought went into this figure. The design of the figure's structure is impressive. And the seamless incorporation of the articulation points is nothing short of amazing. Also, Hasbro accented the figure with silver details to show the joints' mechanics and wear. There is a slot on the back of the figure to store the dried blaster when unused, but this feature works best when you remove the cape. In our opinion, the most damaging thing about the HK-87 Assassin Droid is its packaging. Hasbro lazily used the same base digital art for the character photo. Although the Retro Collection figure is a different version of the character, it essentially has the identical card art as this figure. How difficult would it have been to add a little variety here?
