As expected, Hasbro produced another “Deluxe” version of a previously released figure for The Black Series [Credit Collection] lineup. We know not all collectors are fans of the “credit Collection” subline, but we appreciate the artfulness of it, and the packaging is an excellent enhancement as well. Hasbro cast the Dark Trooper in a blue-gray plastic, but most of this is obscured by the bright contrasting paint that shows the texture and details of this robotic figure. The artwork is divine. It features multiple Dark Trooper characters in flight, with an unhappy Grogu in hand. It would have been extra special if Hasbro tooled an expression-specific version of Baby Yoda with this upset look. Other than that, it’s the status quo here. Hasbro threw in a few extra parts and then charged an arm and leg. But their plans backfired, and the Dark Trooper went on clearance almost immediately. You can find it for about a third of the original MSRP. We believe it has set a record for the quickest discount. The design of the Dark Trooper is clever. In the series, the droid has hinge-jointed mechanics. However, Hasbro used the appearance or style of hinge-jointed parts but converted them to ball-jointed articulation for the action figure. It appears this figure comes with limited articulation. But once you pose the figure in your hands, you see Hasbro held nothing back from incorporating a wealth of movement into it for maximum posing ability. The Dark Trooper has everything from ball-jointed elbows and knees to “rocker” ankles. And the range of motion you get from the action figure is remarkable. Hasbro utilized a duller plastic this time to cast the figure. It looks gorgeous, thanks to its paint operations. Hasbro included a pair of interchangeable hands, fists in particular, which look great on the figure once installed. Hasbro also included the signature blaster rifle, and the figure holds it well with the “non-fisted” hand attachments. The shoulder armor is also removable, but it’s a rather pointless detail, and I’m not sure why Hasbro did this for the 6-inch Dark Trooper. We get a New Republic credit as a bonus, but it’s not noteworthy enough to warrant a purchase. It would help you to buy this figure because you appreciate alternative takes of your favorite Star Wars action figures.
