Basic Figures

The Legacy Collection:

The Legacy Collection Basic Figure line will continue on until the relaunch that is scheduled for this summer.  The numbering sequence appears to be in place to continue from 2008's BD # series through what should be BD #55.

Notable items in the near term will include multiple running changes in WAVE 6 - THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK.  There will be multiple versions of both the Hoth Rebel Soldier and the Ugnaught.  Even though they will be 4 distinct figures, they will only be assigned a total of 2 BD numbers.  Additionally the Build-A-Figure droid for this wave will be U-3PO from the Tantive IV in A NEW HOPE, and not HK-47 as mentioned in the Q&A process.

Officially announced today are the lineups for WAVE 7 - ATTACK OF THE CLONES and WAVE 8 - THE PHANTOM MENACE.  The lineups for these waves had been rumored for some time and we've seen hints through the Q&A process.  Hasbro's presentation nails down the lineups for both waves, and also fills us in on the Build-A-Figure droids for both waves.  HK-47 will be the Build-A-Figure for WAVE 7 - ATTACK OF THE CLONES and L8-L9 from the Clone Wars microserries will be the Build-A-Figure for  WAVE 8 - THE PHANTOM MENACE. 

There are a couple of interesting notes regarding WAVE 8 - THE PHANTOM MENACE.  First, as a point of clarification, while Hasbro showed a Ratts Tyerell in their slide for WAVE 8 - THE PHANTOM MENACE, that character's slot has been taken by another pod racer, Clegg Holdfast (not pictured).  An issue arose with Ratts Tyerell prompting him to be bumped back to a later wave.  Additionally, 2009 is the 10th Anniversary of the release of STAR WARS EPISODE I - THE PHANTOM MENACE.  In celebration of the 10th Anniversary of Episode I, Hasbro will be launching a special promotion for WAVE 8 - THE PHANTOM MENACE.  Promotional stickers called "The mark of Darth Maul" will be on Basic Figures starting with this wave (in stores around September '09).  Those stickers will be redeemable for a Qui-Gon Jinn with Eopie.  The Qui-Gon and Eopie are re-decoed versions of previous releases.  Qui-Gon Jinn is based on the Evolutions release, and the Eopie is a repainted version of the scarce EPISODE I release.

Another major note to consider is that the RETURN OF THE JEDI wave which had been discussed in depth in the most recent edition of the Star Wars Insider has been slid back. Hasbro had originally indicated that this wave might be the 4th wave to ship in 2009, but based on the shipping dates given for the waves announced at today's presentation the RETURN OF THE JEDI will ship in the new packaging which is slated to launch some time after August of this year.

Not counting the current WAVE 5 - A NEW HOPE figures which are shipping now, Hasbro projects that there will be a total of 46 figures offered as LEGACY COLLECTION Basic Figures.  The current announced lineup includes:

EXPANDED UNIVERSE 2-PACKS

Hasbro is projecting a delay in the Comic 2-pack line.  The first wave of 2009 is currrently in stores.  However, given complex production for upcoming offerings, the next wave will be available in time for the new packaging launch in August.  Here's what Hasbro is prepared to announce and display:

DELUXE FIGURE WITH VEHICLE
The success of the CLONE WARS line has provided Hasbro with the opportunity to launch a new line that's akin to past Deluxe Figure lines.  This time around they're calling this the DELUXE FIGURE WITH VEHICLE line.  It's typically a Basic Figure packaged with a small vehicle or an item that's too big to fit on a Basic Figure card.  Hasbro has announced that there will be a total of 8 pieces in this line, with 6 having been announced at Toy Fair.  Those offerings include:

GEONOSIS ARENA FIGURE 2-PACKS - Available October '09
This series of 2-packs is based on the Battle of Geonosis, as the Jedi confront Count Dooku and his Seperatist army in the Petranaki execution arena.  Prototypes of several figures from this series appear to have leaked out last month.  Check that out here in out previous article.   Official images reveal that each 2-pack will be a VERSUS format, with a Jedi facing off against a Seperatist.  Hasbro unveiled 2 of the 6 sets in the series.  Those include:
