Other collectors and I are quite ecstatic over the potential the Retro Collection can bring to Star Wars collecting. Hasbro is smartly starting with the vintage Kenner 12-Backs as TARGET exclusives (coming May 12th by the way and not a day sooner). And the Grand Moff Tarkin is nearly a dream come true. (more….)
We have a sneak peek of the Escape From Death Star Game with exclusive Retro Collection Grand Moff Tarkin figure. The set is nicer than expected. The key selling point here is the exclusive Grand Moff Tarkin figure obviously, but it’s also nice to get a modern chance at buying this old board game once again. I was thinking about the potential of The Retro Collection line, and the more I thought about, the more I likened it to the Hasbro equivalent of the “Infinities” comics. What would the vintage Kenner line have looked like if Grand Moff Tarkin (and others) were part of it? Because of this, I posed Grand Moff Tarkin alongside Kenner’s 1978 Star Wars figures and playsets, including the Death Star. The nostalgia this line creates is something that all original collectors will thoroughly enjoy. And the Retro Collection beautifully complements The Vintage Collection. Oh, and what about that sticker? If you recall, JTA reported that it was indeed a sticker and we pondered the ease of its removability. Simply put, the sticker is indeed easy to remove. You’ll need to be patient as it takes a couple of minutes to peel it off slowly, but it is possible not to damage the card back if you decide to do this. In the meantime, check out our early Photo Gallery of the boardgame and the figure. I can’t wait to see what Hasbro does with this line going forward. Bring on the Sandtrooper, the Rebel Fleet Trooper, and a black Death Star Droid! And so many others too!
During Star Wars Celebration Chicago we discussed the aesthetically displeasing name pill on the current The Vintage Collection figures and how Hasbro is “aware” of this and are looking into it. Admittedly, Hasbro struggled with this detail since the line’s earliest days, but it’s never too late to correct things. Many collectors hope Hasbro will remedy this soon for the line. Upon closer look at the name pill for the Retro Collection Grand Moff Tarkin, Hasbro interestingly perfected the name pill. They couldn’t make it better if they tried. So, there is no need to “look into this” because they’re already doing it. We only need them to apply to The Vintage Collection line next. What is getting lost in translation with The Vintage Collection line that they are getting right in the Retro Collection? Hasbro, can you please apply the same graphic design strategy for The Vintage Collection next? Thank you!
Cool! The Escape From Death Star Game with exclusive Retro Collection Grand Moff Tarkin is hitting some TARGET stores. The good news is that there is not a street date for this item. Use DPCI 087-10-0431. The set is $19.99. Special thanks to our anonymous source for the images and news.
Good news! It appears that The Retro Collection call-out on the front of the card backs is a sticker! Special thanks to friend Steve U. for the image and alert!
You never know what you’re going to find Star Wars toy-related at ROSS. JTA reader and friend Josh M. located a Quay Tolsite action figure for $4.99 on the shelves. Oh, and let’s not froget about that red A-wing Fighter! Insanity.
Randomly searching for some missing items needed for my collection on eBay, I couldn’t help but notice that toys for The Force Awakens list for much lower than The Power Of The Force “2” era Hasbro toys. Sure, adds a premium to older products, but all of the stuff from 1995-2000 were a dime a dozen.

So. What do you think about this newly revealed vintage Kenner RETRO COLLECTION line? We’ll undoubtedly get clarity on it this weekend from Hasbro. But let’s speculate. Will Hasbro make all 92+? Is this just a short term gimmick to bring the straying collectors back into the fold? Are they “dumbing down” The Vintage Collection? What’s really going on here? When the 1995 POTF2 [R] Classic Edition 4-Pack was released so that we had action figures that actually fit inside of the re-released vehicles, the collecting community went ballistic and became unhinged. An entire line of retro figures might create more of that silly panic. Let us know in the comments how you feel about this line!

The official Star Wars website revealed a brand new wave of Galaxy of Adventures figures!
The wave includes Rey, Kylo Ren, Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ep III), Darth Maul, General Grievous and Boba Fett. Each figure comes with a comic book. Also, each figure is a repack. It should be noted that the tube art and comic for Rey are for Jakku Rey in The Force Awakens, but for some strange reason Hasbro decided to put a The Last Jedi Rey in the tube.

Retail is clearancing out the Star Wars [Solo] wave, and so many collectors have yet to see a single character from the film on pegs. Hasbro Toy Shop’s eBay store has the last wave in stock if you’re quick. These figures MAY show up on clearance somewhere down the road, but you know what they say about last wave syndrome…. Special thanks to JTA reader Shawn P. for the alert!
