Welcome to another entry in our The Vintage Collection: The Ninety Six column. Hasbro recently made a commitment to collectors that they will be “focusing” on characters in The Vintage Collection that fall under “The Ninety Six” banner. If you’re new to this, it means that for every classic Kenner figure, there needs a modern counterpart. Between 2020 and 2021, Hasbro’s made an admirable effort by focusing on these characters. But there is more work to be done, and we’ll figure out where we are step by step.
We’re right in alignment with Hasbro in our vintage Kenner database. There are 21 figures under the STAR WARS banner, 29 figures under THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK banner, 31 figures under the RETURN OF THE JEDI banner, and 15 figures under THE POWER OF THE FORCE banner. (Sy Snootles, Max Rebo, Droopy McCool, and Blue Snaggletooth brings the number to an even 100 figures.)
Read our assessment, and then be sure to add your thoughts into the comments. Let us know if you agree or disagree. If you’re a customizer, show us your custom definitive figure in the comments as well! Who knows? It might give Hasbro some ideas.
Welcome, readers! It’s Toy Run Tuesday again, and I have a few great new toys to share with you today. I hope to see your week’s finds in the comments, too! Please click here to check it out!
The Droid Depot Droids multipack features two all-new sculpts for the Disney line. Based on characters from Galaxy’s Edge, this five-pack is colorful, diverse, and comes with one massive droid. It also includes a new R1 unit in the same color scheme as the character we see in A New Hope. Disney coincidentally made the same error on this character as Hasbro did on their version too. (more….)
5POA is never OK, but what if it means you’ll get a TVC collector quality figure of Ahsoka Tano’s astromech droid? That’s what the Jedi Order Celebrate The Saga offers collectors! (more….)
Thank you for reading Research Droids Reviews: Season 12!
We finish up the BB Units for the Galaxy’s Edge Trading Outpost line. They aren’t from the Disney Droid Factory line. They’re from the 5POA TFA/SW [TLJ] Two-Packs sub-lines, which means they don’t split in half or have a lot of movement or play features. It’s a disappointing development. Let’s conclude with the BB Units [Red/Black] set. (more….)
Hasbro went super-cheap on the BB Units for the Galaxy’s Edge Trading Outpost line. They aren’t from the Disney Droid Factory line. They’re from the 5POA TFA/SW [TLJ] Two-Packs sub-lines, which means they don’t split in half or have a lot of movement or play features. It’s a disappointing development. We continue looking at these with the BB Units [White/Purple] set. (more….)
There is a new line of Droid Factory action figures at TARGET via the Galaxy’s Edge Trading Outpost line. How many waves will there be? Only time will tell. Let’s now look at the Astromech Droid [Red/White – Dome] figure. Why can’t Hasbro give these figures names? (more….)
The D-O/R5-2JE/R6-LE5/R2-SHP Droid Factory four-pack concentrates on four new droids from Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker. Most of them are quite nice, and it’s the only way to secure a 3.75″ version of D-O at the moment. Check this set out in our Research Droids Reviews today! Be sure to leave your thoughts in our comments section, vote in the poll or comment about it on our Facebook page. Click the banner below for the direct link to the review! As always, you can also send your review requests via email if you’d like to see something that we didn’t cover yet.
We’ve come across information about the Disney Droid Factory Build A Droid attraction. Apparently, protocol droids may have not gone over as well as the astromech droids, and at the moment, there are no plans to add more protocol droids into the line. In fact, the Droid Factory protocol droids will be going away soon. The estimate is that the theme parks have a couple of months yet before the stock sells through. Rumored but not wholly confirmed is the idea that Disney Parks will return the popular astromech droids with a whole new collection shortly. It also unconfirmed if future collections will fall under the Droid Depot banner moving forward, but I imagine that’s a given at this point. If we learn more, we’ll be sure to share it with you. Check out the entire collection RIGHT HERE in our Research Droids Reviews.
Do you remember THIS HUGE SURPRISE from a couple of years ago that shockingly showed up online (as well as a few random loose figures at store locations)? The full case assortment doesn’t even make an appearance on eBay anymore. How many of the couple hundred collectors who bought the complete set online still have their set? Hasbro denied that any were produced and released, yet a couple of hundred cases made its way to Calendars. It’s a terrible shame this collection got canceled. It was home to the yet-to-be-released Clone Captain Rex and A-wing Pilot in addition to the Build A Droid R5-X2 and R8-B7. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if Hasbro finally got all four of those remaining figures released one day? You can see all of the officially released Legacy Collection [2] figures in detail HERE.
