Paul talks about The Walking Dead from time to time here on JTA, so I thought, heck, why can’t I go off topic too, at least once… Also, it’s Friday night, things are usually slow now, not much going on, why not talk about something completely different? Let’s talk about Star Trek! That other franchise, right! However, I will also touch on Star Wars in my, let’s call it “rant”, so it’s not as off-topic as Paul’s TWD articles. Click through for my rant!
Wow! The Black Series [Phase III] Centerpiece Rey figure, which has barely made a splash at brick and mortar, is on Amazon right now for $17 and change. (This is a $50 item). If you want it, now’s the time! Special thanks to JTA reader Jeff B. for the alert!
Guess what? I watched The Force Awakens for the first time since it was in theaters over three years ago tonight. Those that read with any regularity know how I feel about the film. But if you don’t, in short, I think it’s the worst Star Wars film of the bunch (yes, I think it’s worse than The Last Jedi by a landslide). And I would go so far to say that it’s one of the worst films “period” I’ve ever seen too (for its deception of not being much more than an Episode IV reboot). That’s not hyperbole. I feel it took Star Wars down a path that a large chunk of the community couldn’t follow. Anyway, this isn’t another chance to jibe the film. I have rethought a couple of things, and I felt it is worth sharing. Click through for more.

I’ve come across some very random Star Wars merchandise ever since Disney revitalized the franchise. Kylo Ren kid’s punch or Star Wars crackers, for example. And earlier tonight I saw this at my local supermarket, a Rey alarm clock. They also had a Kylo Ren alarm clock from The Last Jedi. It’s for kids and is 5.99 euros or about $7. And I wonder… who makes these things? And most importantly… why? Does anyone buy this merchandise? What odd Star Wars merchandise have you seen at retail? Post pictures, if you have some. I wonder what else is out there.
The lightsaber, the most favorite weapon in Star Wars. And who doesn’t love the lightsaber duels in Star Wars? We have the measured, careful testing out of skills and then we also have the 15 minute acrobatic lightsaber dances of the prequel trilogy. But as it turns out Jedi use the lightsaber all wrong. How so? Click through to find out!
Ever since the new wave of Star Wars movies were released fans have been debating about the new characters, the heroes and the villains – but it is especially Rey who is scrutinized and sometimes unfairly criticized as being a Mary Sue. However, there’s still this feeling by quite a few fans that Rey lacks something. Or does she? And if she does, what is it? Click through for a closer look at Star Wars heroes!
When The Last Jedi was released one of the questions left unanswered by The Force Awakens was who exactly Rey’s parents were. And Rian Johnson’s movie gave an answer: they were filthy junk traders who sold Rey off for drinking money and they’re buried in a pauper’s grave on Jakku.
Ever since then fans have speculated if that was what JJ Abrams really had in mind when he set up the mystery, or if he had any solution to the mystery at all. Now, actor Simon Pegg was interviewed for a podcast and he shed some light on what JJ Abrams’ plan was. Click through to find out more.
Jason Fry’s “The Last Jedi” novel reveals how Rey could use the Jedi mind trick on Starkiller base and later force pull the lightsaber from the snow – without any training whatsoever. Click here to find out how she did it!

Check out early Photo Galleries and Collector Notes for the first wave of Disney Store’s Star Wars Toybox Figures. These are pretty nice and loaded with The Vintage Collection quality articulation. If Disney started making realistically styled action figures with this high level of quality, we think Hasbro would be in big trouble. They’re in between the 3.75″ scale and the 6″ scale which creates another whole problem for collectors on the fence about starting a new line. Click through to check out these three figures. We think you’re going to love them too.
Just as promised, Shop Disney has put the three new Star Wars Toy Box figures up for order for $12.95 each. These things looks “fantabulous.” They also show the back of the packaging where new figure silhouettes are revealed. Two have to be Han Solo and Sabine Wren, right? What do you think?
We are quite fond of The Black Series [Phase III] Centerpiece Collection sets Hasbro has released this year on Force Friday II. They provide beautiful scenery and a great backdrop for the 6″ figures while introducing static figures a lot like the former Unleashed figures into the mix as well. With the release of Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker in this line already, we believe there are two characters are sorely missing from this line that we should probably expect to see in this format soon. Kylo Ren and Rey would make two important character releases in this format, no?
Funko revealed two near exclusive Pop! Four packs for Costco. The first is called “First Order Four Pack” and includes Kylo Ren with Glow In the Dark Lightsaber, Supreme Leader Snoke, First Order Executioner, and BB-9E. The second is called “Rebel Four Pack” and includes Rey with Glow in the Dark Lightsaber, Luke Skywalker, Chewbacca (with his Porg Pal), and BB-8. Each Pop! is individually packaged within the four-pack box. It’s hard to justify buying a four-pack of Pop! figures most collectors have just because of a slight change (says the guy with every FO Snowtrooper “Variant”), but where have we heard something crazy like that before?? If you’re a die-hard Pop! collector or you haven’t gotten these individually yet, you just might have to pick this up. They do look nice in that four-pack box, but I didn’t even know Costco still existed!

If you’re trying to get your hands on the Rey Token that is missing from Monopoly, you need only jump through a few hoops. JTA Reader Derek shows us what he needed to do to acquire this piece from Hasbro. Click the image to see what is required. I guess they’re keeping track of who wants the piece since Age & Gender of the person using the product is part of the test!
The Chicago Tribune has posted an article sure to upset many claiming that “insufficient interest” has prevented Hasbro from including the Monolopy “Rey” game piece inside of the package. Oh boy, this is going to be an interesting discussion. Special thanks to JTA reader Mark P. via our friends at Yakface.com for alerting us to this breaking news development! FYI, there is a silver lining, be sure to read the article.
