There hasn’t been anything at my local Walmart stores in almost a year, but today I found the new The Mandalorian Mandalorian Darksaber. This is the first new anything Hasbro Star Wars since Triple Force Friday at this location.

Thank you for reading Research Droids Reviews: Season 12!

Tamashii Nations (a Bandai brand) revealed a brand new website today, dedicated to “western style” action figures. By this Bandai is referring to action figures based on Hollywood movies and American TV shows. And to celebrate this new website Tamashii Nations is also teasing several brand new figures! The DC line will apparently get a new Wonder Woman, Marvel’s new figure is still a mystery to be unveiled on May 27th, and Star Wars will get IG-11! That’s at least what the brand new website is teasing.
It was almost guaranteed that S.H.Figuarts would officially reveal IG-11 sooner or later, a promo photo of him was used in the recent solicitations for Baby Yoda aka The Child. Since Hasbro offered collectors a rather lazy version of IG-11, a repainted IG-88 with new bandolier, which is not at all screen accurate, the SHF version of IG-11 could very well be the version of the bounty hunter you need if you demand screen accuracy.
It’s not known yet when exactly pre-orders for IG-11 are available, but it will probably be soon. We will keep you posted!

SH Figuarts IG-11 with carry bag and Baby Yoda

A short while ago it was reported that Temuera Morrison was cast as Boba Fett in season 2 of The Mandalorian. A few days later Timothy Olyphant (Fargo, Deadwood) was revealed to also have a role in season 2 of The Mandalorian. And now Slashfilm has an exclusive scoop that adds another twist to the whole story. Click through for more!

The leaks (or reveals) for The Mandalorian season 2 continue. After learning that Ahsoka (and possibly Sabine and maybe even Rex!) will be in season 2 of The Mandalorian and that Boba Fett is featured as well, Deadline now reports that Katee Sackhoff, who voiced Bo-Katan Kryze in The Clone Wars, will now play the character in The Mandalorian season 2. Season 2 could very well turn out to be one huge guest star festival with so many prominent characters making an appearance.  Bo-Katan’s inclusion does make sense though, since she may want her darksaber back from Moff Gideon.
How do you feel about the inclusion of yet another Clone Wars character? Ar you excited about the possibilities or do you fear season 2 may get overwhelmed by its various guest stars?

The Hollywood Reporter broke their exclusive story yesterday: Temuera Morrison will portray Boba Fett in season 2 of The Mandalorian! According to the scoop Morrison will only play a small role however. The Hollywood Reporter also confirms that it was indeed Boba Fett who approached a seemingly dead Fennec Shand on Tatooine in season 1. Temuera Morrison has kept himself busy in recent years with movies like Aquaman or the Dora the Explorer movie, he also voiced Boba Fett for various Star Wars video games, this will be the first time he actually portrays Boba Fett in live action.

It’s now been confirmed that the upcoming Mafex Beskar armor Mandalorian action figure will not come with a jetpack. However, the figure comes with Baby Yoda aka “The Child” instead. Check out the photo of the figure below (make sure to view the larger version). You can see here where the Mafex figure excels, extremely lifelike and fluid posing is possible, helped by the fact that the proportions are perfect. This is the figure you need if you want a true to life 1/12 scale Mandalorian! Click through for one more photo!

Now that’s a surprise. Mafex haven’t released or announced a Star Wars action figure in ages. But now their version of The Mandalorian action figure has leaked. The reveal is a quick photo of some magazine page, and in true leaker fashion a potato camera was used, oblique angle as well, I tried my best to make the photo somewhat better. Based on the leaked magazine it could very well be that Mafex knocked it out of the park once again. Their Boba Fett action figures (both TESB and ROTJ) are the best you can get, and it seems the Mandalorian may continue that tradition. Not much else is known at the moment. It’s also unknown if Baby Yoda aka The Child will come with the figure. Baby Yoda is shown, he’s appropriately tiny as well, but in the photo with the accessories Baby Yoda is missing. Price for the Mandalorian could be 8900 Yen (based on what is barely legible in the photo of the magazine page) – which is ca $83 / 77 Euros – which is in line with previous figures. Good news everyone! Variety has learned that work on season 3 of The Mandalorian is already underway. In their exclusive report Variety says that Jon Favreau has been writing season 3 scripts for a while now and that the art department under the supervision of Doug Chiang has been creating season 3 concept art for the past few weeks! The Mandalorian is one of the lucky shows that wrapped season 2 production before the current pandemic threw a spanner into the works of many other tv and movie productions. Season 2 will air its first episode in October. And with production on season 3 already beginning there’s good hope that the show will return again in 2021.

We reported about rumored SHF figures from The Mandalorian a few days ago. Some details were still scarce, but now S.H.Figuarts have officially announced the new figures, yes, you read right, figures, “Baby Yoda” is indeed a single release and NOT an accessory. Also, very important, it seems the Beskar armor Mandalorian has a normal sized helmet, and doesn’t suffer from pinhead syndrome after all! Click through for all the photos and some details!

Pop culture magazine “Exclumagazine” posted a photo of two new SH Figuarts Star Wars figures that may or may not come later this year. A Beskar armor Mandalorian and the “Child” aka Baby Yoda (which would most likely be an accessory). Please take this with a heavy dosage of salt. Nothing is confirmed, but the Beskar Mandalorian looks legit, he even has the SHF pinhead syndrome that many of their helmeted characters suffer from. There has been a conspicuous absence of announcements from SH Figuarts in recent times, so some new figure reveals would be welcome. Would you add the SHF version of a Beskar armor Mandalorian to your collection? Or would you rather wait for the inevitable Hasbro version?

Michael Biehn will join the Mandalorian cast in season 2! Biehn is certainly best known for his role as “Kyle Reese” in “The Terminator”. Another of his iconic genre roles was “Corporal Hicks” in James Cameron’s “Aliens”. Biehn hasn’t really had any high profile roles in recent years but The Mandalorian may put him in the spotlight again. Details on his role are sparse, but he’s said to portray a bounty hunter who The Mandalorian had business with in the past. But that’s not the only news. It was also announced that Bill Burr will make a return as “Mayfeld” in season 2.
The Mandalorian season 2 is currently in post production, at least for now. Other shows that are in post production are already delayed, among them “The Walking Dead”, where the season finale is currently in post but will have to be pushed back indefinitely. However, there are no news of Lucasfilm or ILM shutting down (whereas Marvel Studios has shut down for the time being), so there’s hope The Mandalorian will return to Disney+ on schedule in October 2020.
