It has definitely been one of the best weeks in years in Philly as far as store finds are concerned. And that isn't saying much since TARGET gets figures piece meal and Walmarts distribution is about as bad as Hasbro's is. We're ONE DAY out from March 1st and I have finally found the very first Rebels Saga Legends figures ever on the pegs at Walmart today. (Hard to believe all the controversy that was caused from our rumor report in early November ended up coming to pass. In fact, the arrival of these figures ended being later than January 30th by a FULL MONTH. Oh the drama we create! Sarcasm.) For figures that were supposed to be out September 2014, it's amazing that we have received them at all and that so many factors (some known, many unknown) have played such a devastating role in the Star Wars brand's distribution. Anyway, the great news is that Rebels Saga Legends wave 1 (and now wave 2 at select retail locations) is finally making its way to retail and with the dockworkers' contracts finally ironed out, it seems we're in the home stretch to mass arrival of these things (we hope). We truly pray that this nearly 6-month delay has had little impact on the success of the Rebels line. Because there are some great figures in it.

JTA reader Mijail N. P. sends us a very happy store report from Calexico CA. He explains that this is the first time his area has seen Rebels figures (Saga Legends) and someone had already beaten him to them!! This was from Walmart (if you can't tell from the setting).

Yeah, that isn't an exaggeration. Well, there is no other way to say this than it's a miracle. To my shock, yours truly found a fresh "supply" of Saga Legends wave 2 at a local TARGET store right outside of Philadelphia. As you know, TARGET gets most of their figures piece meal now and I was fortunate enough to locate the AT-DP Driver and TIE Fighter Pilot figures (2 of each and that was it). The bigger shock? This local TARGET store, which has had one sole Yoda 3.75" (orange card) hanging and NOTHING ELSE SINCE today also had the TARGET exclusive "figure and vehicle" sets too. Still no sign of the AT-DP with AT-DP Driver yet....

It looks like as if a deal has been reached in the West Coast dockworkers dispute. But before you get too excited, it is expected that the backlog is so severe that it will be months before they actually catch up and are on a normal routine. Besides, from our conversations with Hasbro at Toy Fair, this strike has only been one of many problems anyhow (and not even a root cause). USAToday.com has the story.

This year’s Hasbro Entertainment Brand Preview Event was like no other I have ever attended in the past. It was utterly deflating and frustrating for Star Wars collectors, but for me especially since I was hoping that what I heard rumored would be officialy revealed. It was fantastic if you weren’t a Star Wars collector obviously. I certainly don't want to rain on anyone else's parade who is into other things besides Star Wars. There were many great products announced in the Marvel and Transformers lines. And those into My Little Pony and Jurassic World have many great things to anticipate. The kicker however for me was that the big Star Wars reveal news (which even had its own kiosk in the showroom) was a farting Furbacca. Not a single Star Wars basic figure in any scale or format was announced or even discussed. Because we are a “Star Wars” fan site, let’s talk about what is and ISN’T happening even if it isn't much. (more....)

Lackluster doesn't even come remotely close to describe the Hasbro Star Wars presentation. In fact, after the presentation, we felt exactly like THIS. We do not deny for a moment that they were upfront about not announcing anything related to The Force Awaken, but we didn't expect to see nothing new from Rebels, or both scales of The Black Series. I just wanted to let you know that we did cull some new information (not new products but new explanations on things) out of Hasbro that will be revealed via my Q&A. I am working on that now and will post ASAP.
Please do this in the meantime: Watch THIS VIDEO from our friends at ToyHypeUSA.com. Listen to and watch the energy from the Jakks Pacific Collectors Event presentation featuring Scott "ToyGuru" Neitlich from 2015's NY Toy Fair. This is a man who has pure passion for the license for which he develops toys and the respect the company has for collectors (NOT KIDS – necessarily). This presentation will be relevant for when we get to our Hasbro Q&A. The Star Wars talk starts around 13:50 on the video. Special thanks to FT for the link.
UPDATE: Our very own flamingtoilet found the link to the video for us.

You know we do this every chance we can for you. And now it's time for you to provide us with material from which to work. JTA will have a chance to ask Hasbro your burning questions at the Hasbro Media Event during 2015's NY International Toy Fair (tomorrow). Please feel free to post ONE QUESTION per reader. If you decide to change your question, please just edit your original comment – although we can't guarantee we will catch your edits. So make your first and only question a good one! JTA will be asking all of the standard questions that surround articulation, paint operation issues and plans for the lines, so save those questions for other options. Also, anything related to The Force Awakens (general or specific) will be instantly deleted. We're not touching that topic with a ten-foot pole. Please do not respond to others' questions with a comment. Show your support for the question only by up-voting them. Down-votes will have no negative impact and will count as up-votes. The questions with the most support will get priority. (Please spend some time up-voting others' questions.) Also, those of you without Disqus accounts, please feel free to post as a Guest. Thank you for your support and making this as easy as possible for us.
UPDATE: Please submit your questions by 9 PM (EDT) today if possible. We will continually check after that, but we'd like to have the bulk of them ready by then.

This is NOT necessarily JTA's opinion and it CERTAINLY doesn't mean it's fact (at this very moment). But Rebelscum forum poster "Stan" who has been known to predict very accurate things (and to be fair has also been wrong about others – like any of us) has posted the following: "Hate to the [sic] bearer of not so good news, their [sic] are few waves coming, the ones announce [sic] at New York and one addition wave, the Black Series 3 3/4 RIP!" Take that as you'd like for the moment. It could simply mean it's the actual end of The Black Series line look. Don't panic yet. We will certainly find out more at Toy Fair this weekend. We wonder with all of the past rumors supporting this that this might actually be right on the money. Your thoughts please....

Our Rebels Mission Series wave 2 figures have arrived and we're adding them to our RDRs as we speak. More are on the way, but keep checking back as we still have a few more sets to add. Reviews will be forthcoming, but what you should know right off the bat is that Hasbro has significantly improved their quality control issues. These figures look great despite their minimal articulation. This is a huge step forward, whether you're pro or con 5POA (and less).
UPDATE: Original Trilogy sets now added!

E-tailer Andrews Toys has posted a gallery of the upcoming treacherously terrible and dreadful Digital Release Commemorative action figure sets. I don't think I could think of a worse collection of figures than this. Because these will be supporting an obvious collector focused group of buyers, we find it ridiculous that 5POA figures would be included. There is also the addition of Movie Heroes Padmé Amidala which didn't need to see re-release either for about another 100 years. She is still available at Five Below for $5. I would have rather paid the $35-$40 per set with all collector-focused figures instead. This isn't about hating 5POA. It's about providing nothing to collectors, the ones with money to support the line (and want to support the line). Why must EVERYTHING be kid-focused and dumbed down? What do you think? Click through to see their gallery.

We are in the home stretch for our initial goal of archiving a sample of every figure's card front in our Vintage Archives. Today we start looking at the infamous The Power of the Force line. Fifteen new figures were offered with this wave, with plans to do many more. Our good friends at BanthaSkull.com has joined into the boys' club of revealing the latest case assortments. What's nice about their list is it gives actual case breakdown of how many of each figure is in each case (across many formats like TBS, TBS6, MS, SL). Eagle-eyed collectors will note a surprise or two as well. "Episode V" Han Solo gets added back into the mix. If you recall, our friends at Jedi News broke news of a Han Solo (Hoth Outfit) figure during 2014's UK Toy Fair. The figure disappeared after that and JTA was told by Hasbro at the NYCC Preview Party that the figure was cancelled. While we have NO PROOF that this is indeed Han Solo (Hoth Outfit), it gives us a glimmer of hope that he is back in the mix again, and potentially the definitive version of this action figure (complete with ball-jointed hips). It could also be a typo and Hasbro meant VI instead (which would mean Han Carbonite). But we will know soon enough! Click through for more!

You know, no matter how often we see this happen, it always has the same ominous effect on us. Some blow it off as something that just occurs at retail. Others use it at proof to show that retail has no idea which end is up. We think it's a mixture of that and more. But all we know is that we hope Hasbro takes note and creates a brand-spanking-new assortment number for this year's The Black Series 3.75" line. It needs a fresh new start.... literally. And it shouldn't be encumbered by any disadvantages currently at retail. Special thanks to JTA reader Aarren A. for the image.

While hanging out with a friend in Philly who is moving to Florida, I met JTA moderator Sjefke in person for a drink (who just so happened to be in Philly the same day). He brought his stunning customs collection and I got to hold in my hands the absolutely gorgeous Cane Adiss and Yuzzum custom Star Wars action figures he created (among many, many others). On the way home, I stopped at a Walgreens on the corner and found the latest TBS6 Star Wars figures for a reasonable $19.99 each. So I ask you. Is Walgreens the new salvation for collectors? Walmart, TARGET and to a lesser extent Toys R Us are essentially worthless any more. Obviously Walgreens cannot stock the levels Big Box can, but at least stuff is arriving, selling and being restocked. It was a slow start in my area, but the restocking appears to be more consistent. It's given us new hope. How about you?

“All the money is in the action figures,” he said.
This gist of this may be old news for some of you, but we thought it would be appropriate to direct your attention to this new article which discusses how a big part (most) of George Lucas' wealth and success is all due to action figures. Maybe there is more than meets the eye about the reason he sold his franchise to Disney. After all, action figures sales have to almost be nonexistent by comparison today. Yahoo.com has the full story.

It's February 1st and this is STILL what my local TARGET stores looks like (Admittedly, this is the worst.). Who said Rebels shipped to stores? Hasbro? What a farce! Gee- we hope we didn't incite too much panic when we said Rebels figures would be delayed until January 30th. We jest. But this is ridiculous now. Congrats to those finding Mission Series wave 2. It is almost fiction for most of us!

She is the only figure on the shelves at my local TARGET... and the only figure in the re-shop cart. Make her go away!
Posted by Paul | February 01, 2015 at 02:58 PM ET |
We have received MULTIPLE reports from various JTA readers that TARGET has repriced The Black Series 6" Deluxe line all the way down to $24.99. This is outrageous, especially since the basic 6" line costs $19.99 and basic 3.75" figures are up to $15.99 at some locations. (12.99 on average in most). Special thanks to to legofan1227, Paul B., Michael G.W. and others for all the news surrounding this. We don't know how widespread this is, nor how long this will be in effect. Maybe they're just trying to reduce stock on the Jabbas and Biker Scouts since more are coming soon.

JTA moderator Paul B. also provides proof that Toys R Us has thrown in the towel with the high-priced Star Wars: Command sets. It's unbelievable that these army men toys were over $50 to begin with! Again folks, we're not even through ONE season of Star Wars: Rebels, the multimedia event to support all of these toys. This is NOT a good sign at all.
